Ice Sensation

Kinect for Xbox launch event

In November 2010 the squad was lucky enough to be invited to perform in the official launch of the Kinect for Xbox 360. All the skaters were very excited to have the opportunity to perform on the open air ice rink at the National History Museum to the band The Wanted playing live!

The experience began the day before the launch event when the team travelled to Milton Keynes ice rink for a three hour training session in which the routine was created and taught to us by our coach Fiona. The practice required hard work and determination to get the routine completed in just one session, but with dedication from all the skaters it was completed and polished ready for the event.

On the day of the event we travelled up to London early so we could try out the routine on the ice rink we would be performing on and with The Wanted playing for us. We were able to meet the band after our practice along with the event host Kate Thornton. They were all really cool people who chatted to us, had photos taken with us and even tried to dance along with our routine!

Evening came and the event begun. We skated beautifully and really did ourselves proud. Skating to The Wanted playing their hit song ‘All time low’ live and the iconic London scenery in the background made it a unique experience which will not be forgotten by any of the skaters involved. We were then able to watch solo skater Susanna Bureiko, a dance troop, and Leona Lewis in their performances for the event.

After the event had finished we were given the opportunity to try out the kinect and play some of the games. We all had a lot of fun playing games such as bowling, tennis and raft racing without the use of any game controllers and it turned out to be an excellent ending to a fantastic experience.
